Riding bicycle to school everyday
The Mustard Seed Mission sponsored 72 children through the “Sunshine Cambodia” Program of the cooperated organization in Cambodia. With the caring support of the children sponsors in the first half of this year, the children were still able to continue their education under difficult circumstances.
In addition to getting education stably, 86% of children attended English tutoring after school, and 6 children were partly subsidized to buy a bicycle for school. Besides, the parents’ parenting club was held for each one, which help them to improve their parenting skills and have better interaction with their children. The children were provided with toothpaste and toothbrushes and participated in children/juvenile club that enable them to increase their social network, self-confidence, and hygiene habit.
Risa is 11 years old and in the fourth grade of primary school. His family runs a small business but is in a difficult financial situation. Before joining the sponsorship program, their family relationship was sometimes tense, quarreling, and stressful due to life pressure. The health of family members was often affected by insufficient hygiene literacy.
Through the sponsorship program, Risa’s parents joined the parenting club where they learned basic financial knowledge, and hygiene knowledge, also had time to help their children with school homework, and start to execute money saving plan. Children obtained school bags, stationery, books, uniforms, and bicycles from education support. Risa was given a bicycle for school, which his family could not afford originally, this was not only to solve the problem of transportation to school but also can go out with friends often. Risa has made a lot of friends, and his hygiene habits have also improved!
Improving children’s life habits, parent-children relationships, financial management, etc. is the goal that the Mustard Seed Mission pursues, and it is also expected to see the children and their whole family change and look more joyful and happy.
